Story
“A HIDDEN NUDIST RESORT GEM THAT MANY HOUSTONIANS DON’T KNOW EXISTS”
The 21 acre property was initially purchased by the astronaut Robert Crippen, after it was used as a sand provider for the construction of HWY 59. The sand pit rendered a lake when the construction crew hit an active aquifer, that feeds the lake to this day. For many years, this was called Crippen Lake, and Robert provided it for Boy Scout camping and skill development. Beyond fishing and camping, it had a zip line and other challenging features. In 1976, an organiztion called Beaver Resort purchased the property and operated a restaurant, ice house and a cat-fishing location. The reasons for it being called “Beaver Lake” is because it still has today beavers as part of the wildlife. Then In 1999 it was purchased by a private owner that converted it to a nudist resort in 2001, which was the initial formation of Emerald Lake Resort. The current owner, purchased and upgraded the property, starting in 2011, which included the pool, indoor hot tub, palapa, lake house cabins, plus the expansion of full-time RV locations. Today the Resort has an active Board and remains the OLDEST AND ONLY NUDIST resort in Houston.
